“The Hub” is a weekly round-up of transportation related news in the Philadelphia area. Check back weekly to keep up to date on the issues Clean Air Council’s transportation staff finds important.

PlanPhilly: Philadelphia’s getting new protected bike lanes. Here’s where. – While Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission funded the protected bike lanes, the City still needs to solicit feedback. Public meetings will be arranged by Registered Community Organizations and District Council members.

Next City: Will next U.S. president be all aboard for public transit? – Public transit has barely been covered during this campaign season. See where the presidential candidates stand on public transportation.

Washington City Paper: Capital Bikeshare to offer $5 memberships to low-income D.C. residents – An annual Capital Bikeshare membership costs $85. The new community partnership program membership, which includes a helmet, is $5. Lowering the cost of bikeshare helps to remove barriers to cycling, however more can be done, such as expanding bikeshare stations into low-income neighborhoods and extensive marketing.

Fox 29: Indego bikeshare program to expand in Philadelphia – Check out Fox 29’s coverage of Indego’s expansion that features the bikeshare program’s 500,000th rider. Way to go Indego!
