Exciting New Changes in the Air for Philadelphia’s Largest Earth Day Event
Clean Air Council’s annual 5K Run for Clean Air to add a new 3K Walk,
Cash Prizes, and Free Registration for participants Ages 60+
PHILADELPHIA-Feb. 10, 2012 - Clean Air Council is lacing up for its 31st annual 5K Run for Clean Air and Earth Day Celebration on Saturday April 21, 2012. Located on the beautiful banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, the event is a celebration of sustainable and healthy neighborhoods, clean air and improvements in the region's overall environmental health.
“Now in its 31st year, the 5K Run for Clean Air is making some new and exciting additions,” said Clean Air Council Executive Director Joseph O. Minott. “Clean Air Council is eager to announce that in addition to our usual timed 5K race, a 3K Walk has been added so that everyone can participate and support Clean Air Council’s programs that protect everyone’s right to breathe clean air.”
For the first time in recent history, the Council will be awarding substantial cash prizes to the top 5K Run finishers. Also new for 2012, 5K Run for Clean Air Platinum Sponsor, SCA, will be providing a free registration to all participants 60 and over.
“The Clean Air Council has such an important mission and SCA is excited to be sponsoring their 5K Run for Clean Air again this year,” said Amy Bellcourt, vice president communications for SCA in the Americas. “We hope the event grows even larger by including a walk component and we’re delighted to be providing free registration to all experienced runners and walkers who are 60 and over.”
The 5K Run for Clean Air was named a top “Family Fun Earth Day Run” in 2011 by Active.com. The Run, certified by Athletes for A Fit Planet, utilizes reusable race bags, plantable seed-paper race bibs, a bicycle valet service, recycling and composting of all waste, and many other green features. All race day guests and participants are encouraged to walk, bicycle or ride SEPTA public transit.
