SUMMARY:Roundtable on Philadelphia Transportation Pollution
DESCRIPTION:  \nTransportation just surpassed power plants as the largest source of carbon dioxide pollution in the United States. Clean Air Council works to reduce emissions from both sources by supporting the Clean Power Plan and sustainable transit via programs like GoPhillyGo. The Council and PennFuture are hosting a forum to explore options for cutting transportation-related pollution in Philadelphia. Join us August 23rd 6PM at the International House to hear from the leaders of SEPTA\, the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability\, the Health Department and more! \nRegister here for this unique opportunity to engage those leading Philadelphia to improve air quality and transportation (plus snacks!). \nWhen: August 23rd 6-8PM \nWhere: International House\, Asia Room\, 3701 Chestnut St \nSpeakers:\nState Representative Donna Bullock (D-195)\nSEPTA Director of Innovation Erik Johanson\nMayor’s Office of Sustainability Director Christine Knapp\nEastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation Executive Director Tony Bandiero\nDepartment of Public Health\, Division of Disease Control Assistant Program Manager\, Bioterrorism & Public Health Preparedness Jessica Caum\, MA MPH CPH \nThe majority of Philadelphia’s air pollution comes from automobiles. We have seen new taxes on sugary drinks and cigarettes intended to increase city revenue and improve public health. Will we soon see this logic applied to cars\, tolls and gasoline? What can SEPTA do to increase ridership and take cars off the road on dangerous air quality days? \nWe need you to make this roundtable a success! \nPlease register here and be prepared for a lively discussion about pollution\, transportation and public health.

SUMMARY:Park(ing) Day 2016
DESCRIPTION:PARK(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists\, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. \nOn Friday\, September 16\, from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm\, Clean Air Council’s GoPhillyGo program will be transforming a parking space at 1600 Chestnut into Greater Philadelphia’s multimodal headquarters. Learn how to travel farther without a car\, get mutlimodal tips\, discover environmental destinations and share where you like to go by bus\, train\, or trolley\, on your bike\, and even walking. \nPlan your multimodal trip to our Park(ing) day location with GoPhillyGo: http://bit.ly/2cXfvaU. \nAbout Park(ing) Day\nProviding temporary public open space . . . one parking spot at at time. \nPARK(ing) Day is a annual open-source global event where citizens\, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places. The project began in 2005 when Rebar\, a San Francisco art and design studio\, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. Since 2005\, PARK(ing) Day has evolved into a global movement\, with organizations and individuals (operating independently of Rebar\, but following an established set of guidelines) creating new forms of temporary public space in urban contexts around the world. \nThe mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space\, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated\, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat … at least until the meter runs out!

SUMMARY:Dine Out for the Environment 2016

Now in its third year\, Dine Out for the Environment gives haven to Philadelphia’s hungry environmentalists and eco-compassionates alike with a list of restaurants that are in line with their green values. Clean Air Council has partnered with many of the city’s sustainable restaurants\, and the different ways they’re minimizing their impact on the environment may surprise you. Participating restaurants donate anywhere from 15%-30% of their sales for the day to the Clean Air Council to help fund the Council’s work on air quality issues. \nFor more information on Dine Out\, please contact Bobby Szafranski. SUMMARY:Member Night
DESCRIPTION:Every November\, the Clean Air Council hosts its annual Member Night to bring people up to speed on what we’ve been doing over the past year\, and what we expect to do the following year. The event is free and open to members\, activists\, or anyone interested in the Council’s work. \nMember Night typically runs from 6-8pm\, with beverages and hors d’oeuvres served throughout the night. All the food is vegetarian\, and the Council provides its own plates and utensils to reduce waste. \nThe Montgomery McCracken law firm was kind enough to host the event last year in their Justice Roberts Room and will do so again this year. Montgomery McCracken is located in the heart of center city Philadelphia\, and the Justice Roberts Room offers a breathtaking view of the area. \nFor more information on Member Night or to reserve your free tickets\, get in touch with our Membership Coordinator Carter Brown. SUMMARY:37th annual Run for Clean Air presented by Toyota Hybrids
DESCRIPTION:Clean Air Council is proud to host its 37th annual Run for Clean Air\, sponsored by Toyota Hybrids. The event will take place on Earth Day – April 22\, 2018 – with more than 2\,000 runners taking part in four different races – 10K Run\, 5K Run\, 3K Walk and Kids’ Fun Run. For the first time\, runners around the country can also celebrate Earth Day and support Clean Air Council by running a Virtual 5K race in the week before and after Earth Day. The three distance runs on Earth Day follow the banks of the Schuylkill River along scenic Martin Luther King Drive. As in years past\, this year’s Run for Clean Air is an AFitPlanet-certified green run. Clean Air Council is committed to maximizing the sustainability of the event with on-site solar powered generators\, t-shirts printed with sustainable inks\, recyclable run bibs\, paperless on-site registration and a free bike valet. Additional details and registration information can be found at runforcleanair.com. \nHighlights of Run for Clean Air include: \n\n10K run — one of the only organized 10K runs in the region that’s perfect as a training race for the Broad Street Run. \n5K Run – following a portion of the same flat\, fast route as the 10K run along the scenic Schuylkill River. \n3K Walk — everyone in the community has a chance to get active and support the Clean Air Council’s mission to protect clean\, breathable air with this stroll along the Schuylkill. This year\, participants are invited to bring their dogs on the walk as well.\nKids’ Fun Run — children five and under can participate in a 250-yard dash and children ages six to 12 can sign up for a half-mile fun run. Participating children receive a Kids’ Run shirt and an Earth Day finisher medal.\n\nRunners can even participate in the Virtual 5K anytime between April 15 and 29 from anywhere in the world and will receive a run medal and shirt just like race-day participants. The virtual race elevates Philadelphia’s largest Earth Day celebration to a nationwide level. Runners committed to clean air and a healthy environment can use the hashtag #runforcleanair to show their support this Earth Day.
