SUMMARY:Back to School But Too Hot to Learn Rally
DESCRIPTION:As students head back to school\, Philadelphia-area families are confronting a new reality: climate change is making summers hotter and longer\, with dangerous heat lasting well into the school year. Students and teachers in sweltering classrooms are forced to dismiss early or go remote because of extreme heat. Furthermore\, federal attacks on clean energy and climate protections are moving us in the wrong direction by driving up energy costs and worsening climate chaos.  \nJoin us for the Back to School but Too Hot to Learn Rally \nSaturday\, August 22\, 1 p.m.  \nPhiladelphia City Hall (North Apron)  \nGlenn “Hurricane” Schwartz and Councilmember Nic O’Rourke will join educators and youth advocates to call attention to the growing risks climate change poses to students\, as well as the urgent need for policies to protect their health and future. We will drive home the message that it’s time to invest in clean energy\, strengthen climate resilience\, and put the health and safety of our communities ahead of polluters. All attendees 18 and under will receive a back to school “cooling kit” with tools to keep them safe on hot days.  \nRSVP HERE

SUMMARY:Rally at AI Horizons Summit for a Smarter AI Future in Pittsburgh
DESCRIPTION:A number of Clean Air Council’s partners are co-hosting a rally on Thursday\, September 17th at 8am in Bakery Square ahead of the AI Horizons Summit that Governor Shapiro will be in attendance for. Clean Air staff will likely be at the rally (pending availability)\, but we urge all to attend! \n\nLet’s tell the local tech community to invent better ways to protect communities from air\, water and sound pollution. \nData centers demand massive amounts of water and electricity – straining regional power grids\, driving up utility bills and requiring fossil fuel generation to keep up with demand. In addition\, it will exacerbate global warming – all for little to NO NEW JOBS. \nIn a region still recovering from a century of industrial pollution\, we don’t need another resource-hungry industry built without community input. \nJoin Breathe Project and our partners outside Bakery Square as industry leaders and elected officials gather inside. We’ll rally for real accountability: transparent siting processes\, protections for our air and water\, and a say for the communities who’ll actually live with the consequences. \nWhat to bring: Yourself! We will have snacks\, water and signs. Details to come.

SUMMARY:Protective Buffers Rally in Harrisburg
DESCRIPTION:On October 7\, the Protective Buffers PA coalition will gather in Harrisburg to call for stronger statewide protections from fracking. Pennsylvania’s current minimum setback distances were not designed to protect public health\, and nearly two decades of research show that greater distances between shale gas wells and homes\, schools\, and other sensitive locations can better protect people. \nJoin us at 12:30 p.m. at the Capitol Rotunda to hear from impacted Pennsylvanians and advocates and urge Governor Shapiro to support health-based protective buffers. \nRegister
