The Inquirer: A new $578K grant will support the city’s ‘life changer’ free transportation programPhiladelphia’s Zero Fare Program currently provides 25,000 low-income residents with free unlimited SEPTA rides. This is a pilot program and will run until at least June 2025. After which the city will evaluate the impact and fate of the program. This evaluation is currently being funded by a $578,340 grant from the William Penn Foundation.

The Inquirer: Overhaul of SEPTA bus service is finally approved after years of debateFinally, SEPTA’s board approved the latest version of the bus route overhaul known as the Bus Revolution. This is the first change to the bus network in 60 years. SEPTA plans to fully implement the bus route changes in the summer of 2025. There will be extensive public education outreach before the change is implemented.

WHYY: Newark Regional Transportation Center renamed as Thomas R. Carper StationThe Newark Regional Transportation Center was renamed to honor Senator Tom Carper who has an unprecedented string of 18 election victories and is a big advocate for interstate passenger rail services and transit services. Throughout Carper’s long political career, he made hundreds of trips on passenger rail from Delaware to Washington. The station is now named Thomas R. Carper Newark Station.
