The Inquirer: Safe Routes Philly launched Philly’s transportation safety education program, which aims to teach students to walk and bike safely. This resource includes staff development, formal curricula, organized walking, biking programs, and other resources.
BillyPenn: Indego experienced its highest March ridership last month when Philadelphians rode over 45,000 times. The company will be expanding the bike share program by adding 30 new stations starting in May.
Pew: Transit Centers across the country are converting their parking garages into COVID-19 vaccination sites. This is helpful in getting everyone vaccinated and getting riders back on transit, as transit agencies throughout the country experienced lower ridership due to the pandemic.
Transportation Topics: The President’s budget blueprint was unveiled on April 9. The plan includes an increase in discretionary spending for transportation systems and the Department of Transportation will receive a 14% increase in 2022. Funding is crucial to making sure transit can meet the needs of riders and the planet.
The Inquirer: Wants to know What’s the Philly region’s worst bus stop? After a bus stop from Lower Merion was voted one of the sorriest in Streetsblog USA’s annual “Sorriest Bus Stop” bracket, the Inquirer wants to hear your suggestions of other local transit stops that desperately need some love to become a safe and usable space for people riding transit.
Smart Growth America: Bigger sports utility vehicles are more dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists, and even persons using assistive devices. These cars are more likely to kill vulnerable road users and the US DOT needs to prioritize people when considering the safety of new cars.
