“The Hub” is a weekly round-up of transportation related news in the Philadelphia area and beyond. Check back weekly to keep up-to-date on the issues Clean Air Council’s transportation staff finds important.

Clean Air Council’s pedestrian advocacy group, Feet First Philly, launched the second round of their public space enhancement mini-grant program. Everyone is encouraged to apply and enhance a public space of their choice. Applications are due on 11/8 by 11:59 pm.

The Inquirer: Bloc Delivery offers Next-day Delivery by E-bikes Bloc delivery is an alternative delivery service to Amazon in the city of Philadelphia using e-bikes. These electronic cargo bikes have a smaller footprint in comparison to larger delivery vehicles.

SMARTCITIESDIVE: Leaders Debating Scooter Regulations Across the US Scooters have been showing up on sidewalks in the US for the past 3 years and cities are still working on how to regulate them. Pittsburgh recently regulated e-scooters with a speed limit of 15 mph and restricted them to streets with designated lanes or speed limits at or below 25 mph.

Transportation Today: Pittsburgh Releases 2070 Mobility Vision PlanThe city of Pittsburgh released its 2070 Mobility Vision Plan. This plan aims for “a just, efficient, accessible, and sustainable transportation system” which includes a connected bike network and accessible sidewalks throughout the city.

Government Technology: Can Transit Deliver Urban Equity and Sustainability? COVID-19 changed the way public transportation operates. Many transit agencies even stopped collecting fares, during the pandemic. Now, these agencies are planning for a sustainable and equitable future.

AXIOS: Increase in Electric Bikes in U.S Cities Cities across the U.S are seeing an increase in electric bikes as bike-share companies are investing in e-bikes. Concerns that include the environment and pandemic safety are fueling this growth, but the US is still way behind Europe.
