Plan Philly: SEPTA: New bus route connecting Grays Ferry and Brewerytown to University City expected to launch in 2018 – The long awaited bus route 49 should be operational by the end of the year.  This bus route will connect 30th Street Station to Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The route will also connect the quickly changing neighborhoods of Brewerytown and Grays Ferry to the region’s second biggest employment center, University City.

 

Philly.com: City Council’s bike lane bill won’t make Philadelphia’s streets safer – Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell has proposed a bill that would add another layer of bureaucracy to installing a new protected bike lane or even protecting an existing bike lane. Safety advocates are calling this a power grab, taking decision making power from the qualified traffic engineers and placing it in the hands of city council.

 

City Lab: China’s Subway Boom Slows Down – China has been building metro lines at a rate of 232 miles per year since 2010. The rapid rate of expansion has outpaced the urban sprawl, leaving some new stations seemingly in the middle of nowhere. China is beginning to eschew building new metro lines for implementing bus rapid transit in rural areas.

 

Gear Junkie: ‘Driverless Shuttle’ to Use Largest Bike Path in Minneapolis – Minneapolis’ Greenway is a main artery for cyclists and pedestrians. Ford is set to pilot a fully electric autonomous shuttle to serve riders, mingling with bike and pedestrian traffic.
