Get Involved in Cobbs Creek Park (Stewardship/Volunteering)
- Cobbs Creek Ambassadors Facebook Group – Cobbs Creek Ambassadors are a volunteer group of area residents who have adopted parts of Cobbs Creek Park. Their mission is to improve the park experience for the public by removing litter, trash, and invasives in and around the creek and trails. The group averages 10 cleanups a month and are involved in planting & protecting trees, removing fallen branches & invasives, planting flowers, fighting the Spotted Lanternfly infestation, and installing dog stations.

- Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Center – Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Center has offered environmental education programs at its urban center in Southwest Philadelphia for more than two decades. It offers hands-on activities, research & teacher training to strengthen in-school environmental education. This center features meadows, forest area, two creeks and a wetland.
- Cobbs Creek Recreation Center – Located at Spruce Street and Cobbs Creek Parkway, the Cobbs Creek Recreation Center boasts an athletic field, swimming pool, indoor basketball court, multipurpose room, classroom, boxing gym and lounge.

- We Walk PHL – We Walk PHL is a free walking group that meets several times per week at various public parks. We Walk PHL seeks to promote positive health outcomes, increase use of Philadelphia’s park system, and create opportunities for people to pursue fitness goals while meeting their neighbors. - The Circuit Trails – Greater Philadelphia is the proud home of the Circuit Trails, a vast regional network of hundreds of miles of multi-use trails that is growing in size each year. The Circuit connects our local communities, providing endless opportunities for recreating and commuting.
- East Coast Greenway – The southern section of Cobbs Creek Trail is part of the larger East Coast Greenway. The East Coast Greenway connects 15 states and 450 cities and towns for 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida. They are fostering a safe walking and biking route through the country’s most populated corridor.
- Whitby Meadows Natural Resources Inventory – During the summer of 2020, Audubon Pennsylvania engaged LandHealth Institute to conduct a natural resources inventory for the area of Cobbs Creek Park proximate to the intersection of Cobbs Creek Parkway and Whitby Avenue, to inform ecological restoration as well as community-driven outdoor recreation activities.
- Audubon Mid-Atlantic – Audubon Mid-Atlantic’s on-the-ground efforts in Pennsylvania catalyze a large-scale conservation vision which is important for bird species traveling along the Atlantic Flyway. Audubon’s work includes local conservation education and engagement initiatives and restoring critical bird habitats.

- Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia – For 50 years, the Bicycle Coalition and its members have been making it better to ride a bike in Philadelphia and eight counties in PA and NJ. Join them for 50 more years of improving the health, wellness and sustainability of their communities. The Coalition’s Regional Bike Map lays out more than 400 miles of bike lanes and 300 miles of Circuit Trails.
- John Heinz Wildlife Refuge – John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum is part of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Wildlife Refuge System, a network of lands set aside for the benefit of native wildlife and plants. Established in 1972 through local activism, the refuge protects habitat for the benefit of both people and wildlife. Visitors to the refuge may observe hundreds of species of plants, trees, birds, insects and mammals.
- Bartram’s Garden – Bartram’s Garden is a home for horticulture, the first nationally landmarked landscape, and the oldest surviving botanic garden in North America. It is Sankofa Community Farm, an ancient riverfront, a conversation on food sovereignty, high school internship programs, and a place of untold histories. At its core, it is a public park spanning nearly 50 acres in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Southwest Philadelphia, offering peace, rest, and connection.
- LandHealth Institute – LandHealth Institute is a nonprofit based in West Philadelphia with a mission to restore connections between nature and people by focusing on exploration, immersive at-the-source environmental education, and community-based land revitalization.

- Southwest Globe Times – The Southwest Globe Times is a publication of Southwest Community Development Corporation. 25,000 copies are distributed free in Southwest Philadelphia on a monthly basis reaching the communities of Bartram Village, Kingsessing, Elmwood, Sherwood, Eastwick, Paschall and Angora.
- SEPTA – The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is a regional public transit authority that operates bus, rapid transit, commuter rail and light rail services for over 4 million people in five counties in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- Parks and Recreation Heroes Fund – The Philadelphia Parks Alliance campaigns for outstanding parks, recreation and open space to make Philadelphia a healthy, vibrant and sustainable city for all.
- Fairmount Park Conservancy – Fairmount Park Conservancy brings parks to life. They work with the City of Philadelphia and its communities to steward parks and nurture the shared environment, cultural resources and public health. The Conservancy envisions a vibrant, high-quality, and equitable Philadelphia park system for everyone.
- GoPhillyGo – GoPhillyGo is a multimodal trip planner for the Greater Philadelphia region, allowing users to plan trips combining public transit, biking, and walking. Users can explore the region through the website or the Android app to discover destinations like John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge, Bartram’s Garden, and the Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Center.
- Darby Creek Valley Association – DCVA is a volunteer-driven nonprofit watershed organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in and around the Darby Creek watershed by restoring and protecting its natural, historical, and cultural resources. A major goal of DCVA is the prevention of all forms of pollution in the Darby Creek and its tributaries, including its largest tributary, Cobbs Creek. Pollution reduction and prevention includes a prohibition against all forms of dumping and construction within floodplain zones and maintenance of a debris-free stream through litter clean-ups and public education programs.
