Celebrate Trails Day in Cobbs Creek will celebrate its sixth year running on Saturday, April 26th 2025 from 10am-2pm at the playground/park area at Thomas Ave & Cobbs Creek Parkway just north of Whitby Ave. Brought to you by Clean Air Council and Fairmount Park Conservancy this free event will kick off beginning at 10:00am with over a dozen exhibitors offering family friendly games, resources, information, education and activities for residents to connect with. The event will conclude with a ribbon cutting for a new playspace that will offer playful learning and early literacy opportunities for children in Cobbs Creek.
The day’s schedule is filled with free activities including horseback riding, a birding walk, fishing, nest and shelter building, veggie and fruit giveaway, and a raffle. 9:00-10:00am – We WalkPHLTrail Walk- Join this free walking group that meets weekly at Cobbs Creek Park and offers tiered walking options. Meet at Cobbs Creek Parkway and Thomas Ave.
10:00-1:00pm – Shared Resources will offer FREE food distribution for residents to take home including fruits, vegetables, and grains.
10:00-12:00pm Fishing with Land Health Institute – LandHealth Institute will provide free fishing instruction with the use of our gear to those interested in fishing on Cobbs Creek. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Fishing rods and bait are provided free of charge!
10:00-1:00pm – PopUpPlay is hosting an “Earth Day Birthday Party” for baby animals and plants. The event emphasizes environmental stewardship and celebrates new life in the spring. Activities include building giant nests and shelters using 6-foot bamboo poles and natural materials. Kids will create large, collaborative shelters, allowing them to reflect on themes of caregiving, safety, and the needs of young animals.
11-1pm – Horseback Riding with PURA – Erin Brown, the concrete cowgirl, will lead youth and adults on a short horseback ride around the park.
12:00 – Join Audubon Mid-atlantic for a bird bioblitz walk in Cobbs Creek Park. Attendees will learn how to find birds and participate in community science through the iNaturalist City Nature Challenge. Don’t forget to stop by the Audubon table to pick up free seeds and learn more about their work!
1:00pm – Raffle bag giveaway – Visit Clean Air Council’s exhibitor tent to sign up to win bike helmets t-shirts and more!
1:30am – Tiny WPA and Amber Art and Design will be on site to gain community input and inspiration for four new play and learning spaces for children and caretakers at entrances to Cobbs Creek Park with the goal of inviting more families into the park at safe crossings.
