Join Us For Celebrate Trails Day At Cobbs Creek Park on April 27
Join Clean Air Council and Fairmount Park Conservancy for the fifth annual Celebrate Trails Day along Cobbs Creek Trail on April 27th from 8am-2pm at the playground/park area at Thomas Ave & Cobbs Creek Parkway just north of Whitby Ave. This free event will kick off with two walks from 8-10am and then be joined by exhibitors from 10-2pm to provide free health and education resources, games, and more. The day is filled with free activities including horseback riding, a birding walk, plant identification workshop, and raffle. Event Schedule:
8:00am – Guided Bird Walk – Join In Color Birding strives to make the birding experience a positive one for BIPOC folks and their allies. (Meet at Whitby and Cobbs Creek Parkway)
9:00am – We WalkPHL Trail Walk- WeWalk PHL is a free walking group that meets several times per week at various public parks, including Cobbs Creek Park. Walks will be offered in tiered walking options that range from moderate to fast paced options for those who want a leisurely stroll or more of a workout. Meet at Cobbs Creek Parkway and Thomas Ave (at the park parking lot).
10:00am – Rodney the Falconer – Master Falconer Rodney Stotts with live raptor presentations and sharing the healing power of birds and nature. This wonderful offering is provided by In Color Birding.
10:00am – Tree Philly Philly Tree Giveaway – Tree Philly will distribute free yard trees through their Community Yard Tree Giveaway Program. Yard trees provided through this program must be planted in the ground on private property in Philadelphia. Yard trees may not be planted in a container or in the sidewalk or public right-of-way.
10:00am – Horseback Riding with PURA – Erin Brown, the concrete cowgirl, will lead youth and adults on a short horseback ride around the park.
10:30am – Tiny WPA and Amber Art and Design will be on site to gain community input and inspiration for four new play and learning spaces for children and caretakers at entrances to Cobbs Creek Park with the goal of inviting more families into the park at safe crossings.
10:30am – Plant Printing Workshop – Tiffany Robinson will lead a plant identification exercise and workshop on how to use plants to make prints on fabric.
11:00 – Join Philadelphia Mycology Club Audubon Mid-atlantic for a combined mushroom/bird naturalist walk in Cobbs Creek Park. Attendees will learn how to find and identify mushrooms and birds and how you can participate in community science through the iNaturalist City Nature Challenge. 1:00pm – Raffle bag giveaway – Visit Clean Air Council’s exhibitor tent to sign up to win a HydroFlask Journey Series 20 Hydration Backpack.
