Run for Clean Air presented by Toyota Hybrids – Celebrate Earth Day in a Virtual Way
This year is a big milestone in the environmental community and for all who care about protecting the environment. The 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day in 1970 happens this April, and being the region’s largest Earth Day event, Run for Clean Air is excited to celebrate this historic occasion. We are proud that the Run For Clean Air will continue for its 39th consecutive year even if we are all forced to do so while practicing social distancing to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
In an effort to keep our runners, members, volunteers, partners, and staff healthy and safe, the Clean Air Council events team made the unprecedented decision to hold the 2020 Run for Clean Air as a virtual race. The virtual race was added to the Run for Clean Air a few years ago to give our members and partners outside of the Philadelphia region the opportunity to celebrate Earth Day with us by running a 5k at their favorite park, trail, or anywhere in the world.
It’s never been more important to show support of the environment than it is right now. Now is a great time for everyone to show solidarity and we hope this year’s virtual Run for Clean Air will help people feel connected in a time of isolation.
With this in mind, we’re proud to invite everyone to celebrate with us at the virtual Run for Clean Air presented by Toyota Hybrids. This year’s virtual Earth Day celebration will not be marked by a lack of in-person celebration but with the largest possible reach stretching well past the confines of the Philadelphia-area. The virtual Run for Clean Air has a distance for everyone and will get you moving in celebration of Earth Day regardless of your experience level as a runner–we also welcome walkers!
All virtual runners and walkers will receive a race shirt and to continue our proud tradition of providing finisher medals with a functional use beyond just being a medal. We are excited to award all 2020 participants with a reusable stainless steel telescoping straw in a convenient carrying case so participants can help end our reliance on single use plastic one sip at a time.
