Flashback, the year is 1981 and a local environmental organization holds the first ever Run for Clean Air. The event attracted 100 participants running 5 miles along Forbidden Drive in Wissahickon Valley Park to support the environment. Fast forward to 2021 and the very same organization, Clean Air Council, is holding its 40th annual Run for Clean Air!
The Run for Clean Air is now the region’s largest Earth Day celebration, and attracts thousands of runners annually. Runners from all over the Philadelphia region and beyond come together to celebrate Earth Day and another year of protecting our environment.

Just like last year, to protect runners’ health and safety during the pandemic, the Run for Clean Air will be entirely virtual giving runners the freedom and flexibility to run 5k and 10k distances when and where they choose. All virtual runners and walkers will receive a race shirt and finisher medal. To continue our proud tradition of providing finisher medals with a functional use beyond just being a medal, we’re excited to offer the first ever Run for Clean Air bluetooth speaker medal! Runners can choose to either have their race swag mailed to them, or they can pick them up safely in person at our Rittenhouse Square office.
A myriad of exciting content, resources, and contests will keep runners busy all through April leading up to the event, including a live results broadcast on race day, Saturday April 17th. Follow us at facebook.com/runforcleanair to stay up to date on all the fun activities.
No matter where you run or walk this year, join thousands of people putting their best foot forward and supporting the environment this Earth Day with the Virtual Run for Clean Air! Click here to register.
