The Inquirer: Roosevelt Boulevard Subway proposal gains momentum – but not money – at Philly City Council Hearing The Roosevelt Boulevard Subway would better connect Northeast Philadelphia and Lower Bucks County to the rest of the city. This proposal gained momentum at a City Council hearing and had support from various departments and entities such as businesses, policy makers, unions, residents, and advocates. This 12-mile, 12-stop project was first introduced in 1913, and has shown larger interests since the June collapse of the I95 bridge in the Northeast. Despite the support, where the money will come from to support this project is yet to be answered.

WHYY: Philly considering more red light cameras at dangerous intersectionsRecent legislation introduced in Philadelphia’s City Council would allow the installation of more red light cameras at 3 dangerous intersections. These intersections are: the multipoint intersection of Belmont Road, Ford Road, and Overbrook Avenue; Kelly Drive and Falls Bridge; and 17th Street and Washington Avenue. Drivers that run these red lights would face a $100 fine. During Fiscal year 2023, red light cameras delivered $14,791,780 to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Transportation Enhancement Grant Program.

The Inquirer: SEPTA cameras documented more than 36,000 vehicles blocking bus lanes and stopsSEPTA recorded 36,392 parking violations in bus only lanes and at bus stops using their windshield-mounted video cameras within a 70 day trial last Spring. During the trial no tickets or warnings were issued, but the high number of offenses highlights that a permanent camera enforcement program may be needed to keep bus only lanes clear and to help reduce travel times and delays for public transportation.
