NBC Philadelphia: Philadelphia Employers Will Be Required To Offer Commuter Benefits Philadelphia’s City Council recently passed a bill that will require local employers above a certain size to provide workers with transit or bicycle commuting benefits. This bill is awaiting final approval from the Mayor, and is anticipated to take effect on December 31st.

StreetsBlog USA: Study: Black Cyclists Die 4.5x More Often Than White CyclistsAccording to a study done by researchers at Boston and Harvard universities, “black cyclists are more than four times more likely to die while riding a bike” in comparison to White cyclists. There is also great racial disparity in traffic deaths in other modes of travel, making it important to improve infrastructure in racially and ethnically diverse communities.

PEW Trust: Transit Agencies Dangle Discounts And Perks To Woo RidersThe demand for transit disappeared during the pandemic. In response to lower ridership some transit agencies temporarily made bus services free, but then extended the zero-fare plan to get riders to return. Various transit agencies are implementing different perks and incentives to increase ridership.

PlanPhilly: Philly Officials Want You To Reimagine The Ben Franklin ParkwayPhiladelphia aims to improve Ben Franklin Parkway by making the area from Logan Circle to the Philadelphia Museum of Art more pedestrian and cycling friendly. To reimagine the Parkway, Philly officials want to work with the community, thus they have a four phase plan to collect feedback.

ABC27.com: Wolf Urges Pennsylvanians To Apply For Transportation Assistance The five largest transportation assistance services in the Pennsylvania area include:

  1. The Senior Shared Ride Program
  2. The Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP)
  3. ADA complementary paratransit
  4. The Persons with Disabilities Program
  5. The Free Transit Program

All these programs can be accessed through the “Find My Ride” platform, and Pennsylvanians are encouraged to utilize these services.
