“The Hub” is a weekly round-up of transportation related news in the Philadelphia area and beyond. Check back weekly to keep up-to-date on the issues Clean Air Council’s transportation staff finds important.

PlanPhilly: The Philadelphia School District purchased five new environmentally-friendly electric buses for its GreenFutures Sustainability plan. They plan to transition 4% of their diesel fleet to electric each year, and these new buses will improve air quality and are better for the students health.

Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI): The Transportation and Climate Initiative, which Pennsylvania is a collaborating state, released a finished Model Rule with updates and new materials. They are seeking public feedback  through their online portal, now through August 13,2021.

NextCity: Transportation plays a vital role in every city by connecting people to different resources. Minnesota repurposed six transit buses to provide COVID-19 vaccines to people in communities that need it the most.

CityLab: With low ridership during the pandemic, transit agencies need to be creative in attracting commuters post-Covid. Four methods they can implement to get back commuters and increase ridership are: offering some free tickets, handout multimodal rewards, promote hands-off ticketing, and offer emergency car trips to regular riders.

The Inquirer: Speed cameras on Roosevelt Boulevard aim to increase safety by forcing drivers to slow down. This is one of the deadliest roads in the state, and extending the speed camera program beyond Roosevelt Boulevard can help with the City’s Vision Zero goal.
