The Inquirer: SEPTA and other transit agencies need more money. Pa. Senate Republicans are open to it. – SEPTA and other transit agencies have not yet recovered from ridership loss due to the pandemic and therefore needs more state money for operational needs. SEPTA projects a $240 million deficit. Senate Republicans are now open to increasing State transportation funding for Pennsylvania, but the amount they are willing to spend has not yet been determined.
Transportation Today: New York awards communities $97.7M for alternative transportation projects – The, New York State Department of Transportation awarded 30 communities $97.7 million in federal grant money for alternative transportation projects through the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). This includes projects that will enhance access to public transportation, provide safe routes to school, improve sidewalks, increase pedestrian and cyclist safety, and more. These projects will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the state.
Post Gazette: Bicyclists and others will be able to use streets without cars Saturday in Hill, Downtown, North Side – On Saturday, Bike Pittsburgh’s OpenStreetsPgh event will return and several roads will be closed to car traffic. Pittsburghers are encouraged to fill the street and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as walking, biking, skating, rolling, and dancing. Starting at 3 am, cars will be prohibited from even parking on the route until 3 pm. The event will run from 10 am to 2 pm.
