The Inquirer: Pa. budget deal leaves transit agencies short. SEPTA may have to cut services if there is no more money in the fall. – Pennsylvania’s state budget gives public transportation a one-time $80.5 million to address operating expenses and more permanent funding will be considered in the Fall. This budget provides SEPTA with approximately $53 million which is only a band aid as SEPTA was expecting $161 million. The agency’s spokesperson Andrew Busch expects the approved funds to support the transit authority until the budget discussion resumes in the Fall.
The Inquirer: Federal Transit Administration orders SEPTA to fix issues that are compromising safety – The Federal Transit Administration launched an investigation in August 2023 after multiple SEPTA trolleys and buses were involved in crashes. The regulating agency found 16 problems that SEPTA needs to address to improve safety. SEPTA is committed to addressing these issues. Developments will be posted on the agency’s safety webpage, for the public to track the progress.
WHYY: Brandywine Valley’s trail system in Pa. and Del. set for new additions and closures – An in-depth assessment of the Brandywine Valley’s trails identified the need to revamp the park’s trail system. This is the first significant assessment since the trails became part of the First State National Historical Park (FSNHP) in 2013. The assessment will lead to the removal of about 8 miles of the 27 miles of trail, and 8 miles of new trail will be added to maintain the total miles of trail. This revamp is a five-year project and is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2029.
