About Fairmount Water Works

Fairmount Water Works (FWW) opened in 1815 to provide safe, clean drinking water to Philadelphia. As new, technologically advanced facilities were built, FWW was transformed into an aquarium and later an indoor swimming pool. Today, FWW is home to an environmental education center as well as The Mussel Hatchery Exhibition and Aquatic Field Station.

The mission of FWW is to foster stewardship of our shared water resources by encouraging informed decisions about the use of land and water. We educate citizens about Philadelphia’s urban watershed – its past, present and future – and collaborate with partners to instill an appreciation for the connections between daily life and the natural environment.

Connect with FWW on Facebook or on Twitter and Instagram at @FairmountWW.
