Clean Air Council’s pedestrian advocacy group, Feet First Philly, launched the second round of their public space enhancement mini-grant program. Everyone is encouraged to apply and enhance a public space of their choice. Applications are due on 11/8 at 11:59 pm. A grant information session is available on 9/29, register here to attend.
Plan Philly: A 100-mile walk around Philly – Philadelphia artist JJ Tiziou has walked the 100-mile perimeter of Philadelphia seven times and recently started his eighth 100-mile walk. This walk is divided into 10 walks by 10 miles around the city. If you are interested in participating in this walk you can register here.
Fairmount Park Conservancy: Free Phlash Shuttle in FDR Park – Free weekend shuttle service by Phlash is coming to FDR Park starting 9/18. This service will travel around FDR Park Saturdays and Sundays, every 30 minutes from 10 am – 6 pm.
TheCityFix: Saving Public Transportation – Travel patterns have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic and even the reasons why people travel. Across the world, public transit ridership has declined. In Brazil, public transportation is a constitutional right, and to improve riders’ satisfaction a study was conducted in 2020 to obtain riders’ experience and to demonstrate that transit has public benefits.
Transportation Today: $25 million in funding for Transit Agencies – Public transit agencies that reduced service on or after Jan. 20, 2020, due to COVID-19 will be eligible for funding. The US. DOT’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is providing $25 million in funding to help transportation agencies return to service.
SMARTCITIESDIVE: Traffic deaths climb – For the first quarter of 2021 approximately 8,730 people died in vehicle crashes. To reduce and minimize the potential for crashes, the US DOT needs to adopt the safe system approach and design roads to improve safety for all.
