Plan Philly: Cyclists let it all hang out at 10th annual Philly Naked Bike Ride – Every year on the Saturday after Labor Day, many Philadelphians take to their bikes wearing minimal, if any clothing. The ride focuses on inclusivity and body positivity.

 

Mobility Lab: To make your transit system easier to navigate, use a better font – In order to effectively use a transit system, being able to interpret signs is essential. International airports use standardized fonts designed to be easily interpreted by a variety of users in a various conditions. Transit systems across the world could see an improvement in ease of use by implementing fonts designed to be read through rain, sleet, snow, and by people across the cognitive spectrum.

 

Philly.com: With a weekend fatality, Roosevelt Boulevard on pace for most deadly year in recent history – A fatal crash along Roosevelt Boulevard last weekend brought the annual death toll of this dangerous road to eleven for this year. Originally intended as a scenic country road, the 12 lanes now intersect a large swath of residential and commercial North Philadelphia, creating constant conflict between cars and other road users.

 

Next City: Rebuilding of Ground Zero Transit Infrastructure Completed with Station Reopening The effects of the tragedy of 9/11/01 were felt below ground as well as above, with the Cortlandt Street subway station beneath the World Trade Center being buried in rubble.  Nearly 17 years later, the newly named WTC Cortlandt Station is again operational, completing the recovery of the subway beneath Ground Zero.

 

Strong Towns: Driverless Cars and the Cult of Technology – Autonomous vehicles are creating a buzz in a variety of industries. Companies who stand to profit are all too keen to see what was once science fiction become reality. Many experts working on this technology say that while the hype would have us believe huge advancements are happening quickly, we are a long way off from widespread adoption of driverless vehicles.
