PlanPhilly: Accessible for all is the mantra of Paoli rail station after $48M remake – The Paoli station served by both SEPTA and Amtrak has undergone a serious upgrade which has brought it into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The renovation was precipitated by a lawsuit brought against Amtrak by advocacy organization Disability Rights Pennsylvania, which Amtrak settled in part, by bringing the station into compliance with the ADA.

 

Smart Cities Dive: Lyft redesigns app to put all mobility options ‘front and center’ – Lyft’s app will show far more than ride-hailing vehicles with an upcoming update. Users will be shown public transportation options and bike/scooter rentals available alongside ride hailing. The update will also allow users to compare cost and trip time for each mode.

 

Streets Blog: The Small-City Vision Zero ChallengeSmall cities often face more obstacles in implementing Vision Zero. Lacking the funding and progressive base of larger metros, smaller municipalities’ Vision Zero campaigns often begin with grassroots efforts. NextCity: Sacramento Region to Launch Free Transit Pass for Youth – Sacramento will now give free transit passes to school age children to combat transportation related absenteeism in school. Starting October 1st, the 150-200K youth in the 400 square mile region will ride for free. The public schools in the region have substantially reduced bus service, leaving many students on their own to get to and from class.

 

City Lab: The Best and Worst U.S. Places to Live Car-Free – A car-free life has many advantages for a wide range of people. Transit, pedestrian, and cycling infrastructure are incredibly important for people who choose not to own a car. City Lab has rated differently sized metro areas on how easy it is to quit your car.
