Back to School But Too Hot to Learn Rally

August 22 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

As students head back to school, Philadelphia-area families are confronting a new reality: climate change is making summers hotter and longer, with dangerous heat lasting well into the school year. Students and teachers in sweltering classrooms are forced to dismiss early or go remote because of extreme heat. Furthermore, federal attacks on clean energy and climate protections are moving us in the wrong direction by driving up energy costs and worsening climate chaos.

Join us for the Back to School but Too Hot to Learn Rally

Saturday, August 22, 1 p.m.

Philadelphia City Hall (North Apron)

Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz and Councilmember Nic O’Rourke will join educators and youth advocates to call attention to the growing risks climate change poses to students, as well as the urgent need for policies to protect their health and future. We will drive home the message that it’s time to invest in clean energy, strengthen climate resilience, and put the health and safety of our communities ahead of polluters. All attendees 18 and under will receive a back to school “cooling kit” with tools to keep them safe on hot days.
