5 New Features Not to be Missed at Greenfest Philly 2016

Clean Air Council’s Greenfest Philly presented by Toyota Hybrids kicks off Philadelphia’s fall festival season at Headhouse Square on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. As always, the festival features eco-adventures, edible bugs, sustainable shopping, local and organic food and drinks, live music, and more. For 2016, Clean Air Council and our partners have a few new exciting features you are sure to love.

 

Bike Rides

GoPhillyGo and Kiddical Mass have teamed up to get you to Greenfest en mass. Roll out from Fitler Square and enjoy a leisurely ride through Center City that is great for all ages. (Fitler Square, 10:00 AM)

Once you arrive at Greenfest, take advantage of a free Bike Valet, courtesy of sponsor Philadelphia Insurance Companies, and stop by their booth at 2nd and South Sts. to win a brand new Trek bike. (Bike Valet -All day, 3rd and South Sts.) Enjoy more cycling-centric fun by taking a Firth and Wilson cargo bike for a spin. If you don’t have your own bike (yet!), Indego is offering free 30-minute rides with the code “GreenFest16” and an unlimited corral. (2nd and South, All day)

Workshops

Get your hands dirty this year at Greenfest. Green Philly Blog’s Julie Hancher will be leading a free Seed
Bomb Workshop
at 10:30 AM. Learn about the history of seed bombs and Julie’s adventures in sustainability. (2nd and Lombard, 10:30 AM)beaucycled-succulents

You don’t need to wait for your seed bomb to grow to go home with a new plant. Beaucycled will be hosting their DIY Succulent Arrangement Workshop that has been selling out across the city. For $10 they provide all the supplies, including one-of-a-kind vintage tea cups, and help you transform them into a beautiful succulent arrangement. If fashion is more your thing,  Little Chair Printing will help you transform a boring old item of clothing into a new statement piece through the magic of screenprint! Bring your own item to screenprint (and get a discount!) or buy a tee on site. If you purchase a Greenfest t-shirt, you can add a complimentary screen printed design. We haven’t even mentioned the best part – their mobile print studio is on a bike! (2nd and South, All Day)

Cooking Demos

untitled-design-1Learn to cook mouthwatering vegan dishes that will satisfy even staunch carnivores. At 12:00 PM, Rachel Klein of Miss Rachel’s Pantry will show you how to create a savory cashew-ricotta dumpling with caramelized onion and grilled apples in thyme butter sauce. (2nd and Lombard, 12:00 PM)

At 1:00 PM, Marlo Dilks from P’unk Burger will change the way you think about BBQ with his pulled portobello sandwich with P’unk sauce, onion, tomato, sweet potato fries and veganaise slaw. (2nd and Lombard, 1:00 PM)

Finally at 2:00 PM, Carolyn Nguyen from Revolution Taco will demonstrate how to satisfy your craving for tacos and curry simultaneously with a curried cauliflower veggie taco with potato, curry, house-made guacamole, cilantro, hot sauce + black/ white sesame. (2nd and Lombard,  2:00 PM)

Toyota Ride & Drive Experience

Be sure to plan a visit to the Toyota Hybrids Showroom display and Ride & Drive Experience in your Greenfest festival itinerary. In addition to the well-known Prius, you’ll have a chance to check out the full Hybrid lineup of vehicles and learn more about hybrid technology.
