About

Clean Air Council is committed to working on a variety of environmental initiatives that directly impact the health of residents in Pennsylvania and the Tri-State area, and facilitating change by empowering residents with data, legal consultation, organizing, and help reporting pollution to the proper agencies.

The Council’s staff tailors real-world solutions to these challenges based on the needs and concerns of impacted residents and guides community advocates to be effective voices in policymaking. The Council researches best practices and relies on scientific facts to create the most effective means to counteract air pollution. Staff reach out to and work with frontline and underserved communities to ensure everyone, in every neighborhood, can breathe clean air and enjoy a healthy environment.

Indoor Air Pollution

Everyone deserves to breathe clean air in their homes, but there are few regulations for indoor air quality. The Council provides information and support to residents on indoor air quality issues caused by mold, lead, asbestos, radon, cooking-related pollution, and more.

Air Monitoring

The Council monitors air quality throughout Pennsylvania with low-cost monitors that empower residents with knowledge about pollutants in the air in their neighborhood. Data from these air monitors are used at the local level to highlight residents’ concerns and advocate for better policies and enforcement of existing environmental laws.

Tobacco

Tobacco is one of the most addictive substances, and smoking tobacco causes hundreds of thousands of deaths per year for nonsmokers from secondhand smoke. The Council advocates for smoke-free initiatives in multi-unit housing, public housing authorities, residential homeowners’ associations, and private housing organizations.

Reporting Pollution

Pollution events can be missed or made worse because no one reports them or the incident is reported to the wrong agency. Residents are the closest boots on the ground and know when something isn’t right in their community. The Council relies on tips from frontline communities when pollution occurs and guides residents through the most effective course of action to take resolve the issue no matter what neighborhood the pollution occurs in.
