The Inquirer: SEPTA tokens will be gone forever- for real – on Dec. 31 SEPTA recently announced that it will no longer be taking tokens for fare payment, starting January 1st. Currently, the transit agency receives approximately 750 tokens per week. These tokens are worth $2, but cannot be redeemed for cash. Customers are encouraged to load their tokens onto their Key Cards at a SEPTA fare kiosk.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Pittsburgh changes pay structure after pushback to purple curb parking programPittsburgh’s purple curb parking program was designed to accommodate quick loading and unloading at businesses and would also generate revenue for the city. This program received pushbacks from businesses and in response, council members made adjustments to the fee structure and changed the enforcement of the program by starting at 8am instead of 5am. Money from this program is currently bundled with the city’s metered parking revenue. In the future revenue can be used for specific mobility projects.

Transportation Today: More than 200 communities across the country to receive roadway safety planning grantsThe U.S Department of Transportation announced that more than $82.6 million in roadway safety planning grants will be shared with over 200 communities. This is a part of the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. These will be planning and demonstration projects that aim to improve safety and prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries. Communities can use funds to design various safety measures to protect road users, such as safety action plans.
