Clean Air Council Announces 2020 Run for Clean Air Presented by Toyota Hybrids Will be a Virtual Race, Allowing Participants to Run for Clean Air Anywhere

Virtual Race Takes Center Stage as Celebration of Earth Day’s 50th Anniversary Carries On

(April 14, 2020) PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Clean Air Council announced the 39th annual Run for Clean Air presented by Toyota Hybrids will be a virtual race this year in an effort to keep runners, members, volunteers, sponsors, partners, and staff healthy and safe. Every year, the Run for Clean Air is the Philadelphia region’s largest Earth Day celebration, and this year, the run is particularly poignant as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day during this challenging time. The 10K and 5K virtual races and the 3K virtual walk take this year’s Earth Day celebration beyond a single-day event and open it open to anyone, anywhere interested in running in the name of clean air all Earth Week from April 18 – 26.

“The Run for Clean Air is an important annual tradition,” said Joseph Otis Minott, Esq., Clean Air Council’s Executive Director and Chief Counsel. “This year, when going out for a walk or run is one of the only physical activities we can participate in while practicing social distancing, why not do it in the name of clean air? We’re grateful to all runners, walkers and supporters who share our commitment to protecting our environment and who want to learn more and get involved in this meaningful event.”

Toyota and the Tri-State Toyota Dealers are very proud of our seventh year partnership with the Clean Air Council and to be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day with the Virtual Run for Clean Air,” said Paul Muller, President of the Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association. “Even when practicing social distancing, we can still make the effort to run for clean air.  With Toyota’s ongoing commitment to the development of vehicles that help reduce carbon emissions and as a leader in the alternative fuel segment, we are thrilled to once again support the Clean Air Council through this year’s unique event.”

Registration is open for all virtual events. Runners are encouraged to run their virtual races during Earth Week from April 18 to April 26 and submit their times to Clean Air Council. They can share updates from their training and run using the hashtag #runforcleanair in celebration of Earth Day’s 50th anniversary.

All runners will receive a medal and race shirt celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Runners already registered can switch their registration to a virtual race, donate their registration fee to Clean Air Council or defer to the 2021 Run for Clean Air. Registration is available at cleanair.org/run. The virtual 10K and 5K runs are each $35 and the virtual 3K walk is $30. Registration ends April 26, 2020.
