Clean Air Council

Special Events: That’s a Wrap for 2016!

Each year the Council organizes the Run for Clean Air, Greenfest Philly, and Dine Out for the Environment. All three were very successful in 2016! The staff works year-round with sponsors, partners, and volunteers to bring these events to fruition. The three events raise important funds for the Council but are also fun and inspirational to everyone who participates.

Run for Clean Air

The Council kicked off its event calendar with the 36th annual Run for Clean Air on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Cool, crisp, sunny weather at the Philadelphia Museum of Art greeted close to 2,500 runners and walkers of all ages. A true community-wide Earth Day celebration, nearly 1,000 young runners and their mentors from Students’ Run Philly Style competed in this year’s race. All competitors received a “spork multi-tool” medal as well as a swag bag with eco-friendly goodies. The 2017 Run for Clean Air will be held Sunday, April 9th at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Greenfest Philly

As summer turned into fall, the 11th Annual Greenfest Philly festival presented by Toyota Hybrids turned Headhouse Square and South Street into an eco-friendly outdoor marketplace with over 100 vendors and exhibitors as well as food, activities, live music, and a kids’ corner. Held on Sunday, September 11th, Greenfest kicked off the fall festival season. New for 2016, the festival expanded its hands-on learning opportunities with highly popular DIY succulent arrangement and seed bomb workshops as well as vegan cooking demonstrations from popular Philadelphia chefs and restaurateurs. Toyota Hybrids brought their brand-new 120 MPGe Prius Prime for festival attendees to take for a spin. Over 13,000 people from across the region came out to celebrate Greenfest and support Clean Air Council. Next year’s Greenfest is tentatively scheduled for September 10, 2017.
