Legal Internships/Externships

Clean Air Council offers multiple opportunities for law students to join our legal team in the fight to secure environmental protections for communities in Pennsylvania, the mid-Atlantic, and beyond. Students will have the opportunity to contribute to active litigation and conduct legal research for ongoing matters, interface with community organizers, help advocate for cleaner air and water, receive mentorship, and work as a part of a dynamic team.

Summer Internships

Each summer, the Council offers a full-time summer internship program for law students who have completed their first or second year of law school. Summer interns work on a hybrid basis and are expected to come into the Philadelphia office 1-2 times per week.

Clean Air Council participates in the Philadelphia Public Interest/Public Service (PIPS) Job Fair. Registration opens in mid-December for participating schools, and interviews typically occur in early February. If you attend a law school that participates in PIPS, we request that you submit your application through that job fair.

If your law school does not participate in PIPS or you want to apply outside the PIPS Fair for whatever reason, please send your application to Kathryn Urbanowicz with the subject line “Summer [YEAR] Internship Application” and include a PDF of your resume and cover letter. Please do not send your application via email if you are participating in PIPS.

Applications for summer internships open the previous November and will be accepted through the end of January of the year you are interested in interning for. Applications are not evaluated on a rolling basis and will not be reviewed until January.

Fall and Spring Externships

Every Fall and Spring semester, we offer a part-time externship program for law students who have completed their first or second year of law school and are looking to work for the Council for school credit, typically 10-15 hours per week. Externs work on a hybrid or remote basis.

For Fall Externships, applications are accepted from March to May of that year. For Spring Externships, applications are accepted from September to November of the previous year. If you are interested in working as an extern, please send your application to Kathryn Urbanowicz with the subject line “Fall [YEAR] Externship Application” and include a PDF of your resume and cover letter.
